Fox terrier Jessie’s severe back injury – Five slipped discs

On the 1st April 2007 our very energetic foxy, (Jessie), ran down our hallway to retrieve her ball.  I don’t know what she did, but I heard a yelp and turned to see her just standing there not wanting to move.

The next morning it became obvious that she was in extreme pain, so I raced her off to the vet.
They did blood tests gave her some painkillers and told me to take her home and wait for the results.

The next day Jessie was even worse.  Her face was shrivelled up with pain and she just wouldn’t get out of  her basket.  So off to vet we went again.  This time they took x-rays and discovered that she had slipped 5 discs in her back.  They believed that she would probably need spinal surgery, but wanted to wait a couple of weeks to make sure. They gave her antiinflammatories and a codine- based syrup to help control the pain and sent us home again.

For three weeks I struggled to keep Jessie comfortable.  She wouldn’t drink anything, unless it was out of  the palms of my hands.  She would only go to the toilet once a day.  Every time she moved she would yelp or moan.  I had to carry her everywhere in her basket.  Life was miserable for little Jessie and extremely stressful for my husband and me.  We were considering putting her down.

Forth week, still no improvement, a friend of mine suggested I try  Bioptron Light Therapy as a last resort.  So I rang Mirjana and burst into tears as I explained my circumstances.    Within an hour we were around at Mirjana’s house receiving treatment.  Straight away Jessie started to relax and slept for 2 hours.  I was given a detailed chart of how, when and where to use Bioptron Light and Colour  Therapy.

First week of treatment: At  home, for the next  week I applied the lights as per Mirjana’s instructions. Jessie’s improvement was noticeable within 2 days as she began to drink all by herself and I was able to take her off her Codine based syrup.

Second week of  treatment:  Jessie starting to move around her basket (instead of  just lying there).  She was also able to start sitting  up in her basket for short periods of  time.  She loved the lights being put on her back and wagged her tail each time she saw me approach with the console.
She was drinking  a lot at this point.

Third week of treatment: A noticeable improvement. At the beginning of the week Jessie started very gently getting out of her basket and taking herself out side to the toilet.
She looked a little stiff, but I just kept on using the treatment.  Soon she started greeting us at the door.  By the end of the week she was able scratch her ears and move quite freely.

Jessie is now right back to normal, (just a little fatter).  Life for my little foxy is full and happy
with her chasing her ball, playing with the cat and her toys, chewing bones, running after rabbits
and taking rides in the car.

Bioptron Light Therapy  quite simply saved my dog’s life.  If I hadn’t seen it for myself I would never have believed it.  Since then I have used it on my horse, my husband, my nephew and myself  with excellent results.  I recommend this treatment to anyone.!
